Set to the rhythm of the 90s, Hell's Kitchen is a love story between a mother and daughter. It's about finding yourself, your purpose, and the community that lifts you. Come remember where dreams begin.

Brown, a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, and the music of Alicia Keys.

Featuring beloved songs like “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Edelweiss,” The Sound of Music is the iconic tale of a spirited nun who chooses not to live behind closed doors - and, by following her heart, learns to climb every mountain.

The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp. 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Oscar®-winning film, which continues to be one of the most successful movie musicals of all time.

Library celebrates Christmas tree lighting and arrival of selfie sleigh

The Guilford Merchants Association’s popular selfie sleigh will return for the fourth year to High Point Public Library on Tuesday, November 19.   At 5:30 pm, there will be a countdown to the lighting of the sleigh and the library’s Christmas tree.  Santa Claus will be there available for photos in the sleigh from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

Jim Morgan, local philanthropist and library supporter, is sponsoring the sleigh this year in memory of his late wife, Ann Tisdale Morgan.  The library’s Christmas tree was donated by Ann and Jim Morgan in 2019, and the annual lighting of the tree has served as the official kick off to the library’s holiday celebrations.

Guilford Merchants Association purchased the sleigh in 2020 as a gift to the community during COVID when the High Point Holiday Parade and many other holiday events were cancelled.  The sleigh has been located at the library during the holidays since then, and has become a popular location for family and group holiday photos.  The selfie sleigh will be available at the library from November 19 through early January.

The community is invited to come at 5:30 pm to count down the tree lighting and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.  Other upcoming holiday festivities include the annual Holiday Parade at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 24 and the Uptowne Holiday Stroll on December 7.  The High Point Farmers Market, located at the library, will have a special Holiday Market from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on that day featuring local produce, meat, baked goods, crafts, live music, and a food truck.

For more information about these and other library activities, contact Julie Raynor or call her at (336) 833-3093.

The High Point Public Library is a City of High Point department located at 901 North Main Street.
The library is committed to nurturing the joy of reading, sharing the power of knowledge, strengthening the sense of community, and enhancing economic and cultural vitality.

Hosting Lunch and Learns for artists through the Professional Development Hub, he brings his 30+ years of sales and marketing experience to his creative work as an illustrator and assists artists who may struggle with the business side of their practice in navigating sales and marketing – Teaching them to view themselves as a small business.

Zsuzsi Winn: From Workshops to a Solo Exhibition
Zsuzsi Winn is an artist who started attending Professional Development Hub events. With her background as a Furniture Photo Stylist, she had one big dream – To become a full-time artist. She prepared herself for a year and then made that jump. Over that time, she has tuned her painting skills and launched her first collection of landscape paintings, with the Professional Development Hub guiding her through the experience. “You have to make sure you treat your art like a true business,” says Winn. “How you present yourself as a professional, your website, and your branding matters. You can create the most beautiful artwork, but you need to know how to sell it and market it”. Winn recently hosted her first solo show, activating space at High Point’s historic JH Adams Inn. Glenn Dobrogosz, GSC CEO, explains - “I could not be prouder of what this GSC team (staff and board) and our many volunteers, donors and partners have accomplished in a relatively short amount of time. Our success is a testament to hard work, non-conformity, team innovation and a deep-seated passion for science education and positive community change.”

Dobrogosz continued, “What’s most exciting is that the GSC’s near future is bigger and bolder than ever. With construction on Expedition Rainforest – The Greensboro Biodome and ARCC (Aquatic Rehabilitation and Conservation Center) set to begin in January, Greensboro and Guilford County will be home to a one-of-a-kind, four-in-one destination that further advances the incredibly diverse experiences that we provide for our guests. Becoming a one-stop-shop for life and science is central to our future vision.”

In addition, the GSC is proud to announce that it has once again achieved Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation, making this its fourth consecutive accreditation since 2008. AZA accreditation is granted every five years ensuring that facilities continually uphold and evolve their standards as leading science and conservation-based cultural attractions. Only 10% of the over 2,500 USDA-licensed zoological facilities in the United States meet AZA’s gold standard.

“Congratulations to the Greensboro Science Center for meeting our rigorous standards and achieving Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation,” said Dan Ashe, President and Chief Executive Officer at AZA. “Earning accreditation is a mark of excellence and a testament to the Greensboro Science Center’s unwavering commitment to the highest standards of animal care and conservation. Your dedication not only enhances the lives of the animals you care for but also sets a precedent for excellence in the zoological community.”
